In this workshop, we will explore basic exercises of butoh - an avant-garde form of movement, dance, and performance originated in 1960s' Japan. Butoh evades specific definitions and takes many forms. In this workshop, we will work with energy, imagery, intention, and the wisdom and memory of the body to connect to our humanity through movement and non-movement. We will then apply some of these principles to the form of belly dance, deepening the dance and making it full of intention and sincere energy, transforming it from a presentation to an offering.
